The D3000 is a battery grip for the NIKON D3000/D60/D40x/D40 DSLR cameras, which can hold two lithium ion battery packs EN-EL9 or EN-EL9a.
It is equipped with an infrared vertical-grip shutter release button to enable shooting in the same fashion as a horizontal grip. But before you use the shutter release button on grip, you should set the camera Release Mode to 'Quick-response Remote' or 'Delayed Remote'.
